Business Process Improvement

A large reinsurance company was undergoing a long-term project to review and improve all core company processes and ensure data accuracy and efficiency. As part of the project, the client asked Celeritas to perform a systems and business process review and develop a company-wide unified data model that would ensure business users had access to information that was stored across various departments in the organization.

Fifteen business categories were identified, including underwriting, claims, accounting and new business.

Objectives included Business Process Analysis, Requirements documentation, Data Modeling, Application Architecture and High Level Application Design and System Development for each business unit.

Internet-based Policy Quoting System


    
A private insurance organization wanted to web-enable their insurance quoting systems to allow better and faster transactions between their underwriters and brokers. As part of the project, Celeritas was also asked to increase data flow efficiency and data accuracy within the client's internal environment and interface the new system with existing accounting and claims systems.

Celeritas successfully completed the project, which included Requirements Documentation, Business Process Analysis, Technical Analysis & Design and System Development.

Policy Certificate Creation

A major insurance company asked Celeritas to review the process and systems that supported their current business of receiving electronic applications and printing policy certificates.

Celeritas interviewed personnel and stepped through the lifecycle for both new and renewal insurance policies to create data, process, and system flows that highlighted issues and successes.

Celeritas also designed a phased approach to introduce new systems and processes to alleviate current manual tasks and allow robust reporting.

Policy Renewals

An Insurance company engaged Celeritas to review their current practice of processing policy certificates for both their originating and renewal business.

During the course of the engagement, Celeritas consultants met with members of the insurance company's team to review the applications, data, and processes that support both the originating and renewal business processes.

Rating Engine Development

A large, privately owned insurance underwriter had paid a substantial fee to build a new, Internet-based rating engine that clients could access via the Web in order to create policies to insure their franchises.

After failing in their attempts to install the rating engine system, the client engaged Celeritas to review requirements, then re-architect and develop the application. Celeritas successfully developed, tested and deployed the new rating engine application for the customer, which included building an intranet version for internal users as well as the Internet version for external clients.

Care Management System

A nationwide health care management organization had used a 3rd party, web-based care system for several years under a service agreement in order to manage one-on-one patient care between on-staff nurses and enrolled healthcare members.

Unsatisfied, the client decided to build and deploy a new internal care management system. Celeritas was engaged to gather business requirements, consult on technology options, develop the technical design, and then successfully build, test, document, and deploy the client’s care management system.

Celeritas also mentored the client’s staff—all well within the estimated project costs.

Sales Quotation System Integration

A company that provides services to the insurance industry was nearing completion of a new sales processing application that had external interfaces to several hundred field representatives. The interfaces allowed for daily synchronization with the central database.
Celeritas was engaged to architect a design that would support field representatives in obtaining sales quotes. The challenge was to integrate an existing quoting system that would be coupled to the client's core transaction systems and also share data between the two. Celeritas successfully developed a flexible design that seamlessly tied the systems together and ensured there would be minimal effort for the field representatives when working with the system.

Inventory Management System Development

A nationwide insurance services company which provides audits, underwriting services, and valuation services for the insurance industry requested assistance with re-writing their inventory management system. The web-based application provides client access to create new service orders; manage, copy and report on current and previous orders; batch upload multiple orders; and retrieve final product reports through an http download.

Mainframe to SQL Server Application Migration

A large Insurance company was moving all applications from a mainframe environment to a client/server environment.

Celeritas was engaged to rewrite a mainframe application that received, processed, and produced output from the DST nightly feed of financial information.

Mainframe COBOL programs were translated into SQL, Server, VB, and XML/XSL/Crystal Reports output.
